GLOVE (CARYPHALIA)

Some stories have to be told exactly as they are.

Some stories just have to be told.

If we don’t tell them, they’re fairy tales, and fairy tales are only angelic creatures.

The stories we tell are the world we live in, a “thread” away from fairy tales!

Garyphalia spends many hours of her day in the theatre’s workshop – atelier where she works, sewing and mending costumes.

Her unique companion is her costumes.

Garyfalia confronts the system, stereotypes, society’s values, racism, with herself, in one thread.

She dances – she sings – she protests – she loves – she suffers.

She tries to lose what must be lost and find what must be found.

Unconventional and daring, she could lead the revolution of loneliness. After all, who are we working for?

Script writer note:

“I like weird, strange, paranoid people. Those who have been knocked down by life so many times that they no longer know what the word ‘pain’ means. What can I do with unexposed, lame and “as it should be ” corny people? I don’t want to hear about the trivialities of their daily lives. I want to hear about monsters and love and delusions. About fears and addictions and compulsions. In my madness, I look only for fellow travelers like me. Do you hear me?”  Borrowed “words of wisdom” from a “late-nighter” on the internet …  Michaella was mending a suit at the time, while I was reading the above to her from my phone. It was June 2018… She smiled.  “What will her name be?” she asked me.  “Garyphalia” I replied.  In the following days the script began to be developed with sensitivity and a romantic mood, but at the same time grounded in the harsh reality of women’s position on the social chessboard today and what they carry in their backpack of experiences.   And the mother worked…worked, cooked, cleaned the house and helped us with our homework.  I figured if I tried to write something about everyone, in the end it would be about no one.   But if I write a story of my own truth, maybe it will eventually touch some people.  And the first person who touched was Michaela.  Look beyond the “picture”.  A year later…  For my mother.
